Xbox 360 offline troubles?

Have you ever been to an event where you were unable to play an xbox live arcade title offline? Did it only show you the trial version of a game that you know you've purchased? I have answers for you...

Due to the increase in Xbox 360 usage in local events as well as the prospect of updating your system to the new 360 slim, I decided to post this helpful guide to updating your DLC's licensing.

What does licensing have to do with it? The licensing is what causes this strange error, as each download you purchase from xbox live becomes licensed to the console you downloaded onto. This is why you wont be able to play xbox live arcade titles offline if you've moved your hard drive to a different console or used a data transfer to a new hard drive.

*Note If you always play your 360 online then you've probably not noticed this problem if you have a new 360. The system has to either recognize the original console's license or the Xbox Live account that was used to download the game. So if you're online, it's verified against the Live account and the content will work. You still wont be able to play your games on different consoles though.

Okay, so why should you do this? By updating the licenses of your downloads you will be able to play the full versions of your games offline without hassle. This will ensure that your titles will be accessible if you agree to bring your new console for tournament use.

I'm interested, so how do you do it? You'll need to visit http://www.xboxlive.com and sign in using your email and password you signed up for Xbox Live with.

After you've signed in, visit http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/licensemigration/ or search "licensing" in the search bar on the site.

Follow the easy step by step instructions (there's also a video if you have trouble) and Xbox Live will know that you have either switched to a new console or hard drive.

Next you will need to redownload the games or their licenses depending on the upgrade you've made. If you've purchased a brand new console just start downloading the games again from scratch. If you did a hard drive transfer all you need to do is find the games again in the marketplace and choose "download again". It doesn't download the game over again, only the licensing, so it should only take a moment.

Hope that helps everyone out, let me know if you need any help or have questions.
